Sciton Receives FDA Clearance for Laser-Assisted Lipolysis and ...

PALO ALTO, Calif., July 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sciton announced today that the new ProLipo(TM) laser module received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for laser-assisted lipolysis, and its BBL(TM) broadband pulsed light received clearance for the treatment of wrinkles.

ProLipo represents the latest technological advancement from Sciton to employ fiber-delivered laser energy to target fatty tissue. Using the ProLipo module, physicians will be able to offer patients a minimally invasive treatment that ablates and liquefies fat deposits in treated areas. ProLipo will ideally be used in combination therapy with other proprietary treatments developed by Sciton. The end result is skin that appears firm, toned and smooth. As a stand-alone procedure or in combination with liposuction, ProLipo can be performed comfortably under local anesthesia with less downtime and recovery than traditional lipolysis.

New StimJect RF Cannula Improves Accuracy and Reduces Procedure Time

"Each time the cannula is touched, however, the physician increases the chance that it will be re-positioned, for better or worse. And to numb the nerve before lesioning, the physician must touch the cannula. However, once the nerve has been numbed, the physician can no longer verify needle location through nerve stimulation."

As a result, NeuroTherm designed the StimJect RF Cannula to eliminate the opportunity for unintentionally repositioning the cannula, an action that might occur after the physician has achieved satisfactory placement near the painful nerve. The cannula's special sideport allows the physician to touch only the injection tubing rather than the cannula as a whole.

Hicks explains that, during an RF procedure, physicians first insert the cannula into the patient, then introduce a probe, or electrode, into the cannula's hollow interior.

Cure Acne in Nature This Summer Without Cancer Fears

Yeah, some good news for sun worshipers. Researchers at the Harvard-affiliated Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston provided reasons to be less paranoid about tanning. In an upcoming edition of the Harvard Health Letter, investigators clarified that a suntan is the bodys best effort to fend off the known cancerous effects of ultraviolet (UV) light, not a mere symbol irreparable skin damage.

As ultraviolet light penetrates the skin, it mutates DNA. This mini mutation helps create that sun kissed look that no tan-in-a-tube can emulate. While this is good news for seasonal beach bums, it's spectacular news for acne sufferers.

For years, sunbathing has served as an anecdotal cure for acne. But who wants to treat acne with sunshine if this therapy could cause skin cancer years later? Now that medical insights reveal sunbathing with an 45 SFP sunscreen significantly reduces cancer risk, acne sufferers can enjoy a free solar acne treatment, minus the cancer threat.
